What is Forest School?
Forest School is an inspirational and rapidly growing outdoor learning experience, using a variety of nature inspired activities over a regular period of time. The benefits of being outdoors and the diverse opportunities provided by nature means that there is something for everyone, space to be free, be creative, be constructive, be inspired or just be.
All Wildways Forest programmes are tailor made, favourite themes include, Habitats, Adaptation, Survival and Elemental Spirits or are inspired by a favourite story or poem. Key skills such as listening, communication and working together can be developed and for school groups, the curriculum areas of literacy, maths, science and PSHEI are easily incorporated. Programmes usually lasts for a minimum of 6-8 consecutive weeks, but some continue on indefinitely. The role of your Forest School practitioner is to “enable”, led by the group’s interests and developmental stages and needs, they facilitate the best learning environment, using different habitats, activities, a large dollop of creativity and their experience to best meet the evolving needs of the group.
Our range of activities and experiences is continuously growing but the following will give you an idea of some of the opportunities on offer:
Bush craft, fire lighting, shelter building, tree climbing, camp fire cooking, foraging, forest arts and crafts, Orienteering, tracking, woodland trails, games, team challenges, treasure hunts, nature walks, using tools, making bows and arrows, wood whittling, story telling, natural music, drama and dance, plus lots more.
